One of my son’s friends stopped by yesterday afternoon and my son wasn’t yet home from swimming at the river so he decided to wait. I knew it was getting close to dinner time, so I asked him to join us and he accepted. He sat in the kitchen with me while I was cooking and since this was only the second time I’d met this young man and the first time I’d really had an opportunity to talk to him, I enjoyed the conversation. I noticed that he was wearing a single gold earring and I couldn’t help but smile. My son had gotten his ear pierced the year before and recently ordered a gold earring for his collection. In fact, he wanted to order only one gold earring and I talked him out of it and into ordering a complete set. I explained that if he lost it, at least if he ordered the set he’d have a replacement gold earring. He said that I was right and I helped him order the set. I found my son’s friend to be a great guy with great ambitions. I hope a little of that rubs off on my son, since all he really wants to do is swim and play video games.
